Our Second Belgian Shepherd (Groenendael variety) was born on April 13, 1996 in Pennsylvania at Cosmic Belgians, the home of Renée and Roman Artymyshyn. His sire is AKC/UKC Ch. Kilarney de Loup Noir, HIC ("Highland"), and his dam is Ch. Cosmic Pandemonium, CD, CGC, TDI, TDC, HIC, TT, NA ("Panda"). We adopted him after our Vacation in Ireland in June, 1996.
Shaman was our first Belgian; you really have to read his story to understand what we went through with him; it can't easily be summarized. However, Magic is nothing like Shaman; he is a real joy to have around, he enjoys the company of other dogs and people, and he's doing well in his obedience and handling classes.
On Wednesday, October 30, 1996, Magic graduated from his Level 1 Obedience Class (at the Commonwealth Dog Obedience Training Club in Virginia). On to level 2...
In 1997, Magic finished Level 2. We're not sure if he graduated; he missed the last day! We're working on Level 3 anyway, and he's doing pretty darn good (for an adolescent that is). He's also started FlyBall, which looks like it could really be fun... more on these later.
On April 27, 1997, Magic went to the show-n-go at Pen Park, run by the Charlottesville-Albemarle Kennel Club. He saw a few old friends and made some new ones (especially one neat Great Pyrenees puppy). Then he was put through his paces in the CGC test and passed with flying colors.
The Caricature shown here was drawn by an Artist at the Salem, VA dog show in 1998 (Kristen Schaller); her inspiration was that Magic always appeared like an angel, even after snarfing the Spaghetti out of the colander!
Over the winter, Magic started tracking and began Open work. In May, he received an Excellent rating at a UKC match under judge Barbara Swisher. In his first AKC show, he received Best of Winners (in spite of Mom's incompetent handling!). Presently, he's prepping for the Novice ring and having a wonderful time.
Here's a rather cute photo of Magic (left) and his sister, Meg (aka Meglet, aka Cosmic Eclat de Cygne Noir) when he was visiting. Magic is obviously all business, but you can tell that Meg just wants to have fun :-)
Update: It's 2001 (where did all that time go?) and Magic's an Uncle! Meg has had puppies (courtesy of Cochise) and so Magic will likely have a niece or nephew in our household soon!
